Product Description
Ulteo is a new innovative project aimed at simplifying the use of computers for both invividual and corporate users by bypassing installation of applications, and bringing mobility features. It's an hybrid, network-oriented, computing system. It's using network services intensively. Currently, Ulteo consists of:
  • Ulteo Online Desktop (version 1): it lets users store their documents online, and open them with a choice of applications that run within their web-browser (Firefox, IE and others).
  • Ulteo Application System (Ulteo AS): is an installable version of Ulteo, for the local PC, that ships with hundreds applications and innovative features.

Automatic document synchronization/backup
Put any document/data that you want to be synchronized in your local "Autosync"directory (either in the Online Desktop or the Application System): any file that you add to this directory will be synchronized to your other instances of Ulteo (AS or OD)!

Automatic and transparent network update/upgrade
One (hidden!) feature of the Ulteo Application System is that it's using the network to permanently self-upgrade. So won't have to apply yourself any update, bugfix or security patch. You will even enjoy the latest version of your favorite applications without performing any manual action.

Ulteo start panel
Ulteo has invented a new way of dealing with personal documents and software. The "My Digital Life"panel offers a centralized way to open any application and document that are available on your PC. Additionally, you can right-click on any document or app and send them to "My Digital Life". As a result, you can retrieve your preferred apps and documents very easily.

Ulteo AS 1.02 includes:

  • Firefox web browser enabled with Flash & Java
  • The full OpenOffice.org office suite that can deal with your MS Office documents
  • KPdf to deal with your PDF documents
  • Kopete: the multi-Instant Messaging software that supports MSN and other protocols
  • Skype
  • Thunderbird + Enigmail (so you can encrypt your emails!)
  • Gimp and Digikam to manage your pictures
  • Inkscape and Scribus to create great graphics and newspapers
  • and... many others!
From the Ulteo "My Digital Life"panel, you can add new "application balls", such as additional desktop application, games and soon development applications! It's very easy to add or remove and always leave a clean system.
